Saturday 6 June 2026--Sleep in a while...today is meant to be a rest day, too, after yesterday's four-hour drive, and also a buffer against mishap before tomorrow's ferry trip. For some reason my feet hurt really bad today--neuropathy and/or arthritis are facts of life I have to deal with.
I like Charlottetown, and perhaps should have looked for things to do today, but I'm content just to poke around. I'm happy to find that its charm in town has not been much affected by the urban explosion I witnessed yesterday. Make my way down to the waterfront and pass through the Founders Food Hall & Market, which I haven't been in before. It's not all that interesting. There's a nice café in an adjacent building.
I stroll down along the waterfront to the Irish Settlers Memorial, my favorite of numerous such monuments around eastern Canada, for its ring of thirty-two stones, for each of Ireland's thirty-two counties. Then up to The Bookman, a used bookstore that is the one place I really wanted to visit here. I find a few volumes of Canadian interest to add to my shelves.
I have a pint at Hunter's Ale House, not a really good choice--the waitress can't tell me what beers are on tap, and it's really not much. Zonk out back at the room for a bit, then have dinner and pints at the Old Triangle, a safe pub choice close to my guesthouse. I should probably give Charlottetown more attention sometime...I mostly seem to be just passing through.
